Lynne Boezaart resumed making art in 2010 after a nearly thirty-five year hiatus. She has studied with various West Michigan artists, taking classes and workshops whenever she can.
In 2012, Lynne joined a group of artists to paint en plein air, and was hooked. She now paints en plein air almost exclusively, and in 2013 formed Ottawa Shores Plein Air, which hosts twice-monthly paintouts for artists of all skill-levels, working in any medium. You can find Ottawa Shores Plein Air on Facebook.
Making art out-of-doors presents its challenges – the weather, insects, curious on lookers, to name a few – but a photo reference is a poor substitute for the experience of painting from life.
“The things that make plein air painting challenging are the same things that make it so interesting and enjoyable. Brushing the snowflakes from your palette; feeling the heat radiate from the sand on the beach; or having a finch light on your easel – those kind of external elements cannot help but influence the painting in front of you.”
