Current Show – September 2016, “The Evolving Art of…”
“The Evolving Art…” at Gallery Uptown
Gallery Uptown in Grand Haven has announced its September show, “The Evolving Art…” of Kimiko Petersen, Linda Foley and Curt Sanders, with Laura Pounder and Adam Merten of Claybanks Pottery.
Art is an ever-changing process and artists grow and stretch with every year that passes. Petersen uses mixed media to create her impressive paintings. “This allows me to use anything that inspires me,” she says. Watercolor, acrylics and collage are found in her work.
Foley is a watercolor artist in an expressionist style. “I like to record the interesting movement of water. I paint images, landscapes and people, but I never want the viewer to forget that they are looking at paint on paper, not photographs.” Sanders works with acrylics, without the aid of brushes, and uses very transparent pigments pushed around with squeeze bottles, sticks and glass rods. His work is filled with light and texture. “I love art glass. Now I am painting my impressions of stain glass windows.”
“The Evolving Art…” will run September 1 through 26. There will be an opening reception on Friday, September 2, from 5:30 – 8:00pm. The artists will be on hand for the event and will speak about their work at 7pm. The public is invited to attend this free event; wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
