July 2017: “Musings in Paint & Stone” Gallery Uptown is kicking off the summer season with the show “Musings in Paint & Stone”, featuring gallery artist members Marlan Cotner and Jackie Helder, along with noted local artists Maggie Bandstra and Brian Meuser.
Marlan Cotner’s trompe l’oeil or “fool the eye” paintings require a second glance, and her wry humor can be found in the titles or subjects of her work, as in “Go Fish”, with a realistically painted cat staring at goldfish crackers or a life-sized mouse eating teddy grahams titled “Mousezilla”.
Jackie Helder has been a jewelry maker for nearly two decades and is inspired by the patterns and colors of the world around us as well as the beauty and energy of the beads themselves. Brian Meuser brings a fresh perspective with his landscape oils, and Maggie Bandstra presents a wonderful collection of her oil and ceramic work.
“Musings in Paint & Stone” will remain on display in the Walburg Gallery through Sunday, July 30, 2017.
