I grew up in West Michigan, in a small town, on a farm with plenty of room for a child to roam and imagine. My days were spent building tree forts, playing in our barn, ice-skating on the pond, and sitting on our front porch at night watching the woods come alive.
College, career, marriage and children happened and life became busy. Most of the time I enjoyed it but there came a time in my journey that I felt I lost a bit of who I was and the things that made me feel alive. I became too busy to enjoy the things that were rooted deep within me from my childhood.
When my children were little and I needed a break from my responsibilities, I would find my way into the woods or down at the lake. I began making more time for myself and for these peaceful moments, when it dawned on me to start bringing my camera to try to capture the beauty around me, the way I saw it!
I began my photography career in high school when I was part of the yearbook staff. Later on , I took a black and white photography class where I learned to develop my own film in a darkroom. Along came digital cameras and that changed the game. I studied up on my own and made plenty of mistakes along the way. Little by little, people started paying me for my services.
Since 2006, I’ve developed a successful wedding and portrait photography business. I love capturing people in my photographs, but I also love sharing the beauty that I see in the world which might be otherwise overlooked. I hope to inspire others to get outside and to hopefully find a bit of peace that I have.
I have had work featured in ArtPrize 2015 and 2017, in numerous magazines, and I participated in my first art show at Gallery Uptown in April 2019.
When I am not behind the lens, I love spending time with my husband and our two children. My favorite pastimes are backpacking, kayaking, traveling, painting, and reading. I currently reside in West Olive, Michigan.
