"Using oil paint and an impressionist style of brushwork, I endeavor to catch those moments that feel both ordinary and sacred. I’m drawn to beauty and whimsy which stand in juxtaposition to the ache of impermanence, and the knowledge that nothing lasts forever. So each painting is my way of honoring fleeting moments in light of my own mortality."
Emily grew up on Michigan's lakeshore and from early on has had an intense interest in history, especially maritime history. She has channeled this passion along with her personal memories into her creative expression in the forms of writing, painting, drawing, and sometimes making models of ships out of household items.
As an adult, Emily began selling her artwork in 2012. She switched to painting with oil in 2019 to better bring imagines to life.
She currently lives in Grand Rapids with her husband Thomas, four young children, and cats. She feels blessed to be able to work, love, and create with soulful intention.
