Kimberly Gill

An independent fine artist, Kimberly’s passion is expressive portrait painting.  Her work typically has a social justice orientation with an emphasis on women and children. While her portraits capture a likeness of each subject’s face, her objective is to dig deeper and, in doing so, make visible their soul; the essence of their humanity and inner beauty. Kimberly also enjoys painting figures, landscapes and abstracts that evoke a sense of mystery and wonder.

Kimberly is a graduate of Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.   She has earned her signature and nautilus fellowship status with the International Society of Experimental Artists where she now serves on the board of directors.   Continually developing her artistic skills, taking risks and being open to inspiration is most important to Kimberly as she moves forward on her journey as an artist.

from Kimberly...

“My work is constantly evolving in the spirit of exploration and experimentation. Each new painting I approach is with excitement. Typically, I begin by simply playing with acrylic paint, charcoal or graphite powders and sticks, collage papers, brushes, rollers, scrapers, alcohol spray, and other mediums. For me, this is the most exciting part of painting, when I free myself from any expectations and allow my intuition to take over. Once a surface is semi-completed, I let it rest to consider what direction to take next while contemplating what I might see in the piece; a face, a figure, a landscape, or even perhaps a bird. The challenging, but most satisfying part, is to develop a “surface” it into a completed painting. Creating a sense of movement and mystery is important to me, but my ultimate goal, as for many artists, is aimed at establishing an emotional connection between my work and the viewer.”
