Silent Winter Woods: Oil
Lynne resumed making art in 2010 after a nearly 35-year hiatus. She has studied with various West Michigan artists, taking classes and workshops whenever she can.
In 2012, Lynne joined a group of artists to paint en plein air, was hooked, and she now paints en plein air almost exclusively. In 2013, Lynne formed Ottawa Shores Plein Air, which hosts twice-monthly paint-outs for artists of all skill levels, working in any medium. Painting out-of-doors presents its challenges – the weather, insects, curious on-lookers, to name a few – but a photo reference is a poor substitute for the experience of painting from life.
Lynne states:
“The things that make plein air painting challenging are the same things that make it so interesting and enjoyable. Brushing the snowflakes from your palette; feeling the heat radiate from the sand on the beach; or having a finch light on your easel – these external elements cannot help but influence the painting in front of you.”
