Mark A. Werkema is an American impressionist oil painter, drawn to the skies and clouds in his
artwork. Skyscapes are his passion, with an emphasis on jetscapes, compelling skies, dramatic
weather, all with an emphasis on aviation themes. His interest in aviation art and the skies is
founded on his career as a commercial airline pilot for a major U.S. airline, and his passion for
flying. His “art of the sky” is a reflection of this inner sentiment. His bold, impressionist style is
a characteristic trademark of his unique artwork of the dramatic skies which he knows well. His
artwork concentrates on Lake Michigan, and the American West in Arizona and New Mexico.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“In the sky there are all of the elements of a dramatic painting; it is my passion to convey the
emotion, feeling, and movement of the sky, the clouds, the weather, and the wind all combined
with oil paint on a canvas to portray such great scenes of nature in the skyscape.”
Associate Member of the AIS (American Impressionist Society) and the ASAA (American
Society of Aviation Artists.
